This exhibition (New York State Capitol, Ended October 2004) commemorates the 140th anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg with ten conserved battle flags carried by New York State regiments into combat between July 1 - 3, 1863. Each flag serves as a silent testimonial to the gallantry of all the New Yorkers who followed their colors into battle in and around the small town of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, those fateful three days. Although second to Pennsylvania in the number of deployed troops, New York’s losses (approximately 6,700 killed, wounded, or missing) were greater than those of any other Union state.
Below are the ten flags included within “Banners From The Battlefield: New York Flags at Gettysburg”
