Guard Soldier Trains in Desert

NATIONAL TRAINING CENTER, FORT IRWIN, Calif. " New York Army National Guard Private Christopher Hennings from Company B, 2nd Battalion, 108th infantry secure a good firing position on a mock insurgent compound here Oct. 8 during training. The Soldiers are training here as part of the unit’s preparations for mobilization and deployment to Afghanistan with the 27th Infantry Brigade Combat Team in early 2012. About 1,500 of the Soldiers are currently scheduled to deploy.

Guard Bobsled Speeds to Victory At Lake Placid

LAKE PLACID, NY--The National Guard # 88 sled tears down the track at the Mount Van Hoevenberg Olympic Sports Complex driven by race car driver Melanie Troxel, with New York Army National Guard Spec. Matthew Powers serving as brakeman. The two were participating in the 5th Annual Lucas Oil Geoff Bodine Bobsled Challenge Presented by Whelen Engineering on Jan. 10. The event raises money for the U.S. Olympic Bobsled Team. Twenty Soldiers from Company B, 2nd Battalion 108th Infantry participated in the race with NASCAR and National Hot Rod Association drivers. Guard Soldiers Become Bobsled Racers Again

LAKE PLACID, NY--A New York Army Natgional Guard Soldier from the 2nd Battalion 108th Infantry keeps his head down while serving as brakeman on a sled speeds down the Mount Van Hoevenberg bobsled track during the Geoff Bodine Bobsled Challenge in 2009. The weekend of Jan. 9-10 20 members of Company B 2nd Battalion 108th Infantry, based in Morrisonville, will participate in the 2010 edition of the race.

Guard Soldiers Gear Up in Bodine Bobsled Challenge

Sgt. Kenneth Stout, an infantry Soldier from the New York Army National Guard's Company B, 2nd Battalion, 108th Infantry Regiment, prepares for a bobsled race as a brakeman during the 2009 Geoff Bodine Bobsled Challenge. The fourth annual race, held Jan. 3 in Lake Placid, N.Y., raises funds for the U.S. Olympic Bobsled Team through the participation of NASCAR and NHRA competition drivers. Stout, from his armory in Ogdensburg, N.Y., along with other veteran Soldiers of the 108th Infantry from New York's North Country, participated as racing partners to the NASCAR drivers. This year's race winner was Todd Bodine and his brakeman, Spc. Patrick Furman, a vehicle driver from the Schenectady based Company E, 427th Brigade Support Battalion.
