YONKERS--New York Air National Guard Airmen assigned to the 105th Airlift Wing Honor Guard provide funeral honors for retired Air National Guard Tech. Sgt. Mario Scaduto in Yonkers New York on Dec. 16 2023 accompanied by members of the Stewart Air National Guard Base Fire Department. Scaduto had served in the 105th Civil Engineering Squadron. He was one of over 1900 veterans honored by the New York Air National Guard in 2023.

HINTERSTOISSER, Austria-- A C-17 Globemaster III assigned to the New York Air National Guards 105th Airlift Wing serves as a backdrop for a ceremony being held at Hinterstoisser Air Base in Austria on June 16, 2023, to mark the one-year anniversary of the Vermont Air National Guards State Partnership Program relationship with the Austrian military. In her remarks, Ambassador Victoria Reggie Kennedy praised the 105th for the work they have been doing supporting Air Defender 2023, a major NATO air defense exercise which is currently underway. Kennedy also got a chance to tour the aircraft.

STEWART AIR NATIONAL GUARD BASE--General Daniel Hokanson the Chief of the National Guard Burea left on stage joins the members of the crew of C-17 Reach 824 on Saturday June 4 at Stewart Air National Guard Base in Newburgh New York. Hokanson was there to present one Distinguished F lying Cross and five Air Medals to the flight crew. They were recognized for their airmanship and valor in August 2021 when they delivered critical cargo and personnel to Kabul Airport dispite small arms fire and other dangers.

JOSEPH , MISSOURI--An Airman assigned to the New York Air National Guard's 105th Airlift Wing loads a HIMARS rocket launched artillery system belonging to the 2nd Battalion, 130th Field Artillery Regiment of the Kansas Army National Guard into a C-17 Globemaster III aircraft at Rosecrans Air National Guard Base in St. Joseph, Missouri on June 4 2021. The HIMARS is a highly mobile artillery rocket system offering the firepower of a multiple-launch rocket system on a wheeled chassis. The system was being moved to Camp Guernsey Joint Training Center, Wyoming for an exercise being held there.

GABRESKIT AIR NATINAL GUARD BASE-- For the second time in two weeks, Airmen assigned to the 105th Airlift Wing and 106th Rescue Wing load a HH-60 Pavehawk helicopter onto a C-17 Globemaster III at Gabreski Air National Guard Base in Westhampton Beach N.Y. for a deployment in support of hurricane victims on Sept. 7 2017. The helicopters were being dispatched to Puerto Rico in response Hurricane Irma in the Caribbean. On August 26 the two units responded to Hurricane Harvey together.

105th Airman Participate in Death March Memorial

Members of the New York Air National Guards 105th Security Forces Squadron head uphill at White Sands Missile Range New Mexico on March 20 during the annual Bataan Memorial Death March here. The 26.2 mile march was launched in 1989 to commemorate the American and Filipino Soldiers who were marched 80 miles to prisoner of war camps by their Japanese captors in 1942. Along the way hundreds of the Soldiers died. The march is conducted in New Mexico because 1800 members of the New Mexico National Guard were among those captured.

Joseph Lemm, both members of the New York Air National Guard's 105th Airlift Wing's 105th Base Defense Squadron, who were killed in action in Afghanistan on Dec. 21 2015, have been awarded the Bronze Star with V for Valor for their actions that day. Lemm are transferred from a C-17 to a hearse during a ceremony on Monday, Dec. 28, 2015 at Stewart Air National Guard Base by members of the 105th Airlift Wing. Lemm was killed in action while deployed to Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan on December 21st 2015. Staff Sgt. Louis Bonacasa, another member of the 105th Base Defense Squadron and four other Airmen were also killed in the attack.

Crash Recovery Exercise at Stewart ANGB

STEWART AIR NATIONAL GUARD BASE, NEWBURGH, N.Y. -- A team of 105th Airlift Wing maintainers hone their skills by participating in a Crash, Damaged, Disabled, Aircraft, Recovery exercise during the Unit Training Assembly Nov. 6, 2011. The exercise is an annual requirement for CCDAR team proficiency which also lets Airmen use the palletized equipment and ensures it is ready for use. Recover kits are made up of inflatable air bags, protective mats, air manifolds, hoses and air compressors. Recovery of a damaged or disabled aircraft is not as simple as just inflating some bags under the plane. CCDAR teams use instructions called Technical Orders which instruct them on locating the proper lift points, how to prepare the ground under the lift points, maximum bag height, bag inflation order and air pressures to name a few of the requirements.

Representative Announces Solar Power at Stewart

STEWART AIR NATIONAL GUARD BASE, N.Y. - Representative Maurice Hinchey outlines plans to construct a solar energy complex at Stewart ANGB during a press conference held at the base on Monday, Jan. 25. The federal governnment will spend $4 million to construct a solar array that will up to three quarters of a megawatt of electricity, satisfying half of the bases power needs. The array will occupy four to six acresat the site. U.S. Rep Maurice Hinchey detailed the future solar energy complex being built here later this year. The project is the largest solar initiative in the Hudson Valley and will assist toward meeting the Air Force�s goal of all bases using 25% renewable resources by the 2025.

Early Morning Loadout at Stewart for Haiti

STEWART AIR NATIONAL GUARD BASE, Newburgh-- Airmen from the 105th Airlift Wing's Logistic Squadron load cargo belonging to New York Task Force 1, New York City's FEMA-sponsored urban search and rescue team on board a C-17 bound for Haiti early Saturday morning, Jan. 16. Two C-17s from the 21st Airlift Squadron at Travis Air Force Base, California, picked up the 80-person team and transported them to Haiti. The 105th Airlift Wing stored the teams' equipment while they waited for transportation to participate in the earthquake relief effort.

Search and Rescue Team at Stewart

The wing remember two members who were killed doing their duty as civilian first responders when the World Trade Center Towers fell. Staff Sergeant Jerome Dominguez, a member of the 105th Security Force Squadron and Staff Sgt. Andrew Brunn, who belonged to the 213th Engineering Installation Squadron gave their lives in service of others. Dominguez was a member of the NYPD Emergency Service Squad #3. Brunn was a member of FDNY Ladder Company #5.

105th Airlift Wing Hosts Family Readiness Race

STEWART ANGB, NEWBURGH, NY, June 29, 2009 -- Lead runners pass a 105th Airlift Wing recruiting trailer as Guardsmen, dependants, relatives and area running club members compete in the first Stewart C-5K fundraising run, a 5 Kilometer race held here on Sunday morning. 82 runners participated in the event which raised approximately $1,400 to be used by the NY National Guard Family Readiness Council to provide financial assistance to National Guard Soldiers, Airmen and their families during deployment emergencies. Kevin Portillo, nephew of Staff Sgt. Fernando Cruz, 105MXS, won the race in 17 minutes and 2 seconds. The C-5K was sponsored by the 105th Family Readiness Group and 105th First Sergeants Council.

Fire Fighters Train For Emergencies

Fifty-five members of the Stewart military community-- which includes members of the Air National Guard and the United States Marine Corps Reserve's Aerial Refueler Transport Squadron 452 ( VMGR-452) participated in the games held in the New Windsor Recreational Facility on Saturday afternoon of the May Unit Training Assembly. Air Guardsmen and Marines vied for base bragging rights in a double elimination competition. The First Six Enlisted Council--a joint Air Guard and Marine group-- created the 3-on-3 Tournament to raise morale, strengthen unit camaraderie and to jumpstart fitness. “I found this event to be very exciting and a healthy challenge and was happy to see so many us come out and participate. I believe if this tournament was a consistent part of future drill weekends it would improve the fitness of members. I would surely take part in this event whenever available” Said Staff Sgt. Michael D. Winfield, 105 LRS. The overall winners of the tournament were the Marines of MAG49-Detachment B. “It was nice to see people having fun and exchanging contact information. Having an outing like this has served its purpose. There will definitely be more events like this to come” added Tech. Sgt. Jose Chevere, President of the First Six Enlisted Council.

Airmen Give Blood on Good Friday

NEWBURGH-- Senior Airman Hilary Crispell, a member of the New York Air National Guard, gives blood during a Friday, April 10 blood drive held at Stewart Air National Guard Base. A total of 102 members of the Stewart Air National Guard Base community donated blood at the 105th Airliftw Wing's Good Friday blood drive.

National Guard Airmen Donate to Community

NEWBURGH, N.Y. - In the spirit of the season; SMSgt John Ramos, Mrs. Jeanne Dion, and Tech. Sgt. Ray Lucca load a pickup truck with donated gifts and food. The women and men of the 105th Airlift Wing, Stewart Air National Guard Base, raised over $7,500 in support of community charities this holiday. Stewart Air National Guardsmen adopted 24 Orange County families identified by local not for profit groups as requiring special assistance. Their goal: help their anonymous families' along the way to a joyous holiday season. In addition to gift donations, Air Guard personnel also operated a successful food drive in support of several community pantries.

New York Airlifters Aid Science Foundation

Members of the 105th Airlift Wing's Aerial Port Squadron and 137th Loadmasters upload a Case International Harvester QuadTrack onto a C-5A Galaxy. This specialized vehicle will be used by the U.S. National Science Foundation in support of operations based in Greenland.

Emergency Management Exercise at Stewart Airbase

Stewart Air National Guard Base, Newburgh N.Y. 15 October 2007. Members of the 105 Logistics Readiness Squadron's Aerial Port and 137 Airlift Squadron Loadmasters loading Pre-positioned Equipment onto a C-5A Galaxy. The 105th Airlift Wing in conjunction with the Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Emergency Management Administration, Region II conducted a deployment exercise loading a C-5A Galaxy with FEMA's deployable Pre-positioned Equipment (PEP), which is used for protection, detection, decontamination, communications, and explosive ordnance disposal. The equipment is used in multiple environments and is specifically tailored to sustain and reconstitute local and state first responders sufficient for 72 hours of response and recovery. This is the first time this equipment has ever been loaded onto an airframe.

Air Guard Gives Gift of Life During Holiday Season

Stewart Air National Guard Base, Newburgh N.Y.-- 21 December 2007. Staff Sgt. Brian Burns, 105 MXS, happily awaits preparation to donate double red blood cells in support of Stewart Air National Guard Base's annual Holiday Season blood drive. Burns feels a sense of responsibility to give to those in need and has donated for over 8 years. The 105th Airlift Wing community is a consistent supporter of the New York Blood Service, Hudson Valley Region. Stewart ANGB holds four blood dives a year, each on or just prior to a major holiday.
