MCMURDO BASE, Antarctica--Major General Patrick Murphy (left) the Adjutant General of New York, speaks with members of the New York Air National Guard’s 109th Airlift Wing at McMurdo Base in Antarctica prior to boarding an LC-130 for a flight to the South Pole on January 31.
Murphy visited the Antarctic to get a first-hand look at the vital mission the Schenectady-based 109th handles each year when it flies supplies and people around the continent in support of National Science Foundations Missions. Every component of the Amundsen-Scott Station the United States maintains at the bottom of the world was flown in by a New York Air National Guard aircraft.
