RRETH-GRETH, ALBANIA-- New York Army National Guard Officer Candidate Opeoluwa Taylor, a member of the Officer Candidate School Class 69, conducted by the 2nd Battalion, 106th Regiment conducts water crossing familiarization training with the Albanian Armed Forces Cadets in Rreth-Greth Albania on May 16 2024. New Jersey and New York National Guard Soldiers traveled to Albania to complete Situational Tactical Exercise (STX) lanes as part of State OCS Phase 2 with cadets from the Albanian Military Academy. The New Jersey National Guard and Albanian Armed Forces have been partners for over 20 years in the U.S. Department of Defense State Partnership Program.

Over a dozen New York Army National Guard troops took part in the tournament, which was organized by the New York Army National Guard's 106th Regional Training Institute. Winners may have an opportunity to represent New York State in the All Army National Guard Combatives Tournament to be held at Ft. Benning, Ga. in 2014.

CAMP SMITH-- New York Army National Guard Col.Michel Natali accepts the colors of the 106th Regional Training Institute from Brig. Gen. Paul Genereaux during change-of-command ceremonies here Sunday. Natali took over command of the training unit from Col. Mark Warnecke who is retiring after more than 35 years in the Army and Army National Guard. Warnecke will continue to serve in his civilian job as director of Camp Smith.

CAMP SMITH TRAINING SITE-- New York Army National Guard Spec Casey Monahan, a member of A Troop 2nd Squadron 101st Cavalry, grapples with Isac Chavez, a Brown Belt Assistant Instructor at the Cutting Edge Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu School, during the Army Basic Combatives course held here on October 27. Chavez is the 2010 no Gi Pan-American Champion in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and was brought in as a guest instructor for the course. 12 Soldiers from across the New York Army National Guard attended the train-the-trainer course conducted by the 106th Regional Training Insitute. These Soldiers will go back to their home units to pass along the combat survival skills they learned.
