BEACON-- Soldiers of the 1156th Engineer Company put the finishing touches on the the restored Beacon Fire Tower on top of Beacon Mountain. The company constructed a reproduction ranger cabin next to the tower and put some finishing touches on the fire tower, which they restored in 2012 during annual training.

COHOES, N.Y. --New York Army National Guard Soldiers of the 1156th Engineer Company stand behind their final project here, a replica engineer castle, as part of their final efforts in a community project here June 13 to restore a former Erie Canal lock into a public park. The Soldiers provided a week-long effort as part of their annual training each year since 2011 to remove debris from the abandoned lock, overgrown since 1911. The City of Cohoes partnered with the Guard engineers to remove the debris, install drainage and develop a walking path as part of the lock’s conversion to a public site. U.S. Army photo by Sgt. BEACON, NY -- Staff Sgt. The 1156th has stayed busy over the last year providing both military and community support ranging from aid to civilian authories during Tropical Storm Irene and Tropical Storm Lee to cleaning up the old Erie Canal.

LAKE PLACID-- New York Army National Guard Sgt. Nick Cunningham, a member of the United States Bobsled Team and the 1156th Engineer Company, sets off on a run during competition here February, 17-19. Cunningham placed ninth in the two-man sled races out of 29 sleds and finished at the number 13 spot in the four-man sled race. Cunningham, a member of the Army National Guard for two years was on the last Winter Olympics Team and is expected to compete in the next Winter Olympics.

CAMP SMITH TRAINING SITE, CORTLANDT MANOR, N.Y. -- Members of the New York Army National Guard’s 1156th Engineer Company, wearing red helmets, use a jackhammer to penetrate concrete debris as part of their search and extraction training. The troops practiced horizontal breaching techniques during training for the National Guard CBRNE (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear or High Explosive) Enhanced Response Force Package (CERFP).
