OPERATIONS SUPPORT MEDAL

a. The NYG-OSM serves as an award for service to any NYG member when called to active service under orders authorized by HQNYG. The service would be similar to that required for: the NYS Duty in Aid to Civil Authority Medal [NYS-AID] , the Medal for Humane Service to the State of New York [NYS-HUM, or the U.S. Humanitarian Service Medal [HSM]. These types of service would qualify the New York Guard member for the NYG-OSM in those cases where the member could not be brought to State Active Duty nor could be awarded the Federal HSM or State AID or HUM. b. Recommendations for this service medal must be reviewed by the NYG Awards Board. c. Recommendation for award will be submitted in memorandum format without citation to Commander, New York Guard, ATTN: MNSG-PA-AD. d. A 3/16" bronze star will be awarded in lieu of additional medals. A 3/16" silver star will be awarded in lieu of five bronze.
