Mission Statement

Legal Affairs' (MNLA) primary mission is to provide principled counsel to The Adjutant General of the New York National Guard (NYNG), the New York Department of Military and Naval Affairs (DMNA) and its Directorates. MNLA strives to maintain the highest legal, moral, and ethical standards. This office pays homage to the JAG Corps by upholding its Values, Warrior Ethos, and emphasis on proper procedures. MNLA strives to provide courteous, competent, caring legal service to Commanders, Officers, Soldiers, Airmen, their family members and military retirees. Areas of practice include, Military Justice, Operational Law, Domestic Operations Law, Administrative Law, Claims, Legal Assistance, Contract Law, Fiscal Law, and Cyber Law.

Defense Services

Army - Trial Defense Services (TDS)

Trial Defense Service provides conflict-free legal services to Soldiers who are facing adverse criminal or administrative actions at no cost to the soldier. We provide legal assistance for the following:

  • Legal Consultations for Adverse Administrative Actions
  • Suspect Rights Consultations:
    • 15-6 investigations, commander’s inquiries and other military investigations.
  • Representation at Administrative Boards
  • Article 15 Consultations
  • Appeals of Adverse Actions to State Separation Authority
