Sixth Graders from Sand Creek Middle School in Albany collected school supplies and clothing for children in Afghanistan. Soldiers from the National Guard’s Joint Force headquarters in Latham, along with members of their Family Readiness Group were greeted by cheers and waving flags as they arrived at the Middle School to collect items on June 16.
State Command Sergeant Major Robert Van Pelt spoke to students about life in Afghanistan and the importance of what their doing to help. “You are helping to support the Humanitarian Assistance mission in Afghanistan and also helping children less fortunate than you” said VanPelt.
Sand Creek was presented with a Certificate of Appreciation Plaque to thank them for all their support.
