BALLSTON SPA -- New York Army National Guard Soldiers assigned to the Recruiting and Retention Battalion load Christmas trees heading for military bases in Florida and Virginia into a truck at Ellms Tree Farm in Ballston Spa on Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2023, as part of the national Trees for Troops initiative. The Soldiers took time out on their way to work to help load the 131 trees, which were collected at Ellms Tree farm from Christmas tree suppliers throughout the region.

SARATOGA SPRINGS-- New York Army National Guard recruiters who were recognized for their efforts in 2022 display their awards during the Recruiting and Retention Battalion Dining Out held on January 7, 2023 in Saratoga Springs, New York. The New York Army National Guard recruiters were the only National Guard recruiting team to meet their goal, and even exceed it, for fiscal 2022.

New York Army National Guard Soldiers from the Queensbury Readiness Center join dozens of military family members and hundreds of friends and community residents for the 13th annual Christmas Eve road march in Glens Falls, N.Y. December 24, 2016. The nearly four mile road march is organized by retired Sgt. 1st Class Art Coon, a former New York Army National Guard recruiter. Joining Coon in the lead of the roadmarch is New York Army National Guard Sgt. 1st Class Adam Barber who Coon enlisted in 2003 and now serves in the same community and Barbers ten-year-old son Matthew. The annual road march began in 2004 when Coon and a dozen or so volunteers turned out to show support to New York Army National Guard infantry Soldiers from the local Glens Falls armory, then deployed to Iraq. Marlana Watson receives the New York State Medal for Valor from Major General Patrick Murphy, the Adjutant General of New York, during Wednesday, August 19 ceremony at the Armed Forces Reserve Center here. Watson, an Afghan veteran and medic, rushed out of her house in Syracuse on the night of Nov. 5, 2014 to treat two victims of a driveby shooting despite not knowing if more gunfire would erupt.

QUEENSBURY-- New York Army National Guard Major Patrick Chaisson, dressed as a World War II Airborne Trooper, explains weapons a World War II paratrooper would have used, including the Browning .30 caliber M1919 machine gun, to visitors at a weapons display held on Saturday, Feb 19, at the Queensbury Readiness Center. Chaisson, the operations officer for the New York Army National Guard Recruiting and Retention Command, is a collector of historic uniforms and equipment. About 75 people attended the event at which they got a chance to see modern weapons systems used by Army National Guard Soldiers, as well as the historic weapons. Visitors also got to fire "Airsoft" replica weapons of actual M-4 carbines, used to train recruits.

NEW YORK -- New York Army National Guard Staff Sgt. Lewis Swartz from Company A, Recruiting and Retention Command, removes snow at the Bedford Avenue Armory here in Brooklyn after the Nor’easter storm Jan. 12. The snow storm is the second in recent weeks, prompting the mayor’s office to declare a snow emergency to expedite the clearing of city streets. “Snow or no snow, the mission continues," said Swartz. “New York is a city that never stops, so if there is someone out there who wants to join, we make sure our doors are open, along with a clear path,” he added with a smile.

Merriman has been in the Guard for one year and is assigned to the 107th Military Police Company in Utica. The Guard Car Tire Change simulator gives state fair visitors the opportunity to find out what it feels like to change the tire on a high-performance NASCAR vehicle.
