FARMINGDALE -- New York Army National Guard Staff Sgt. Marlana Watson receives the New York State Medal for Valor from Major General Patrick Murphy, the Adjutant General of New York, during Wednesday, August 19 ceremony at the Armed Forces Reserve Center here. Watson, an Afghan veteran and medic, rushed out of her house in Syracuse on the night of Nov. 5, 2014 to treat two victims of a driveby shooting despite not knowing if more gunfire would erupt.
