EADS Air National Guardsmen braved the elements last Saturday to scour 1.5 miles of highway at Griffiss Business and Technology Park in Rome, N.Y. In addition to enough run of the mill litter to fill 38 garbage bags , the group collected 10 junk tires and a large foam cushion.

Warrant Officer Duane Feltham and the Canadian Forces Detachment Rome stand at attention on Thursday prior to Rome’s Veterans Day ceremony. Capt. Chris Crumb, a Weapons Controller at the Eastern Air Defense Sector, simulates controlling a mission. Recently, the Weapons and Tactics shop held the unit’s first-ever semiannual ‘Top Scope’ competition. The competition is designed to help members of the unit achieve one of the overarching goals of the Sector, which is to improve mission effectiveness.

Allen Usry, command senior enlisted leader for NORAD (the North American Aerospace Command) and U.S. Northern Command, and Senior Airman Heather Price, anEastern Air Defense Sector Tracking Technician and the EADS Airman of the Year for 2009, cut the cake during the unit’s Annual Awards Banquet Jan. 15. The award winners will now compete at the unit’s higher headquarters, First Air Force as well as at the state level

Staff Sgt. Robert Hale, Northeast Air Defense Sector identification technician keeps a close eye on tracking Santa. To ensure Santa is safe and on schedule, the Air National Guard will ensure that their alert fighter aircraft, controlled by NEADS, are prepared to fly and help Santa at a moment’s notice, if needed. And in case of poor flying weather, NEADS will provide jolly Saint Nick navigation and guidance.
