New Yorker Competes in Regional Best Warrior

CONCORD, MASS- New York Army National Guard Staff Sgt. Christian Hager,a member of the 2nd Battalion 108th Infantry from Batavia, runs across the Old North Bridge here at the conclusion of the Northeast Region Best Warrior competition on May 15, 2015. Hager won the New York Army National Guard Best Warrior competition in the NCO category. The competition was held at Camp Edwards May 12-15 and wrapped up with a 12-kilometer road march that ended at the historic site. The Old North Bridge marks the spot at which Massachusetts militia members fired back at British soldiers on April 19, 1775.

Troops Help Deliver Supplies in Mohawk Valley

Guard Responds to Mohawk Valley Floods

MOHAWK-- New York Army National Guard Soldiers Staff Sgt. Gary Matt from the 2nd Battalion 108th Infanty and Staff Sgt. Joe Bolton from the 206th Military Police Company tow a surplus humvee used by the Village of Mohawk as a rescue vehicle out of a garage where it was submerged in five feet of water so they can slave start it. The Guardsmen were part of the state response to flash flooding in the Mohawk Valley ordered by Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

Task Force Iron Soldiers Return Home

2-108th Soldiers Return from Deployment

SYRACUSE-- The Soldiers from the 2nd Battalion, 108th Infantry Regiment and Company C of the 427th Brigade Support Battalion deployed to Afghanistan as Task Force Iron to perform a security mission in bases around that country. Another group of Soldiers arrived at Albany International Airport on Sunday night as well. The rest of the battalion is expected on Wednesday, Sept. 26.

Speeding Down the Track at Lake Placid

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. -- A bobsled with a New York Sgt. Kenneth Stout, an infantry Soldier from the New York Army National Guard combat veteran from the 2nd Battalion 108th Infantry heads down the track during the during the 2009 Geoff Bodine Bobsled Challenge. The fourth annual race, held Jan. 3 in Lake Placid, N.Y., raises funds for the U.S. Olympic Bobsled Team through the participation of NASCAR and NHRA competition drivers. Stout, from his armory in Ogdensburg, N.Y., along with other veteran Soldiers of the 108th Infantry from New York's North Country, participated as racing partners to the NASCAR drivers. This year's race winner was Todd Bodine and his brakeman, Spc. Patrick Furman, a vehicle driver from the Schenectady based Company E, 427th Brigade Support Battalion.

Message for Returned Troops

ROCHESTER - Maj. Gen. The soldiers and their families gathered for The New York Army National Guard Yellow Ribbon Reintegration Program. The NYARNG Reintegration Program is an effort to help Soldiers and their families cope with stress of returning to civilian life after deployment, while also helping National Guard Units transition from federal mobilization status back to state control. The two day event included opening remarks by Brig. Gen. Patrick Murphy, Director Joint Forces Headquarters and was followed by a Job Fair type event featuring VA, veterans groups, legal assistance, etc. The 2-108th Infantry (Security Force Company) recently returned from Afghanistan where they served in support of Operation Enduring Freedom as a member of Task Force Phoenix VI and VII.

National Guard Emergency Response Team Trains

Members of the decontamination team from the New York Army National Guard’s 2nd Battalion, 108th Infantry prepare casualties for decontamination and medical processing during validation of the team’s casualty evacuation, decontamination and medical assessment mission. Nearly 300 members of the New York Army National Guard’s Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Explosive Enhanced Response Force Package (CERFP) conducted their team’s validation exercise at Fort Drum, N.Y. on June 17, 2007. The exercise evaluated the team’s ability to rapidly establish decontamination sites, evacuate casualties and provide decontamination and medical triage in support of civil authorities.
