Michael P. Golden serves as Executive Officer/Associate Commissioner, for the New York Naval Militia. He oversees the day-to-day administrative functions of the 3,200 member force on behalf of the commander of the New York Naval Militia.
Michael was commissioned into the United States Marine Corps in May 2009 after graduating from Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps at Norwich University, which is also known as the Military College of Vermont. He was assigned as an 0402 Logistics Officer and served on active duty as a motor transport platoon commander with 2nd Marine Division Camp Lejeune North Carolina and with First Battalion Sixth Marine Regiment deploying to Helmond Providence Afghanistan.
He completed service in the Marine Corps Reserve in 2016, being assigned to 6th Communications Battalion, Brooklyn, NY, having served as a platoon commander and executive officer of Headquarters Company and completing annual training in Cameroon and Morocco.
After joining the New York Naval Militia in February 2020, Michael was activated on state active duty March 2020 for the initial response to the Corona Virus Pandemic as well as the enduring mission serving in every position at the J4 ALOC (Administration and Logistics Operations Center). In 2025 he was activated again for the state active duty initial response and enduring mission for support to NYS Department of Correction as the Watch Officer for the Naval Militia. His Naval Militia billets have included serving as the Personnel Action Team commander, Deputy N-1, N-1, N-6, Officer in Charge of the newly created Unmanned Ariel Surveillance Unit, and in 2025 he was appointed as Commander of the newly created Military Emergency Communications and Surveillance Command (MECS).
From 2014 to 2025 he has worked in the Criminal Justice field starting as a Criminal Investigator and Firearms Instructor with the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance and advanced to the position of Deputy Director for the New York State Department of Labor Office of Special Investigations (OSI) where he oversaw eight field offices throughout New York State in the detection and prevention of billions of dollars in Unemployment Insurance fraud. At the end of 2025 he accepted his new position with the Division of Military and Naval Affairs.
His awards and honors include the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Combat Action Ribbon, and the New York State Medal for Meritorious Service with Silver Shield denoting second award. Additionally, he received the Military Order of the World Wars Silver Patrick Henry Service Medal for significant patriotic contributions to the cause of patriotism and is an Eagle Scout. He was appointed in 2022 as the Veteran Member to the Town of Milton’s 250th Revolutionary War Committee and in 2025 he was appointed as the Commander of the Saratoga Chapter of the Military Order of the World Wars. Michael has a commission for the rank of Major in the Naval Militia.
Michael holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Norwich University, as well as a Master’s degree in Criminal Justice from Boston University. He graduated High School from LaSalle Institute, Troy, NY.
Michael Golden is married to Dr. Krista Golden, who is a pharmacist with Walgreens, they have between them four daughters, Kaylee, Ella, Claira, and Eva.
