Growing Success: New York Soldiers Guide Afghan National Police to the Future

Driving Ford Ranger pick-up trucks, Afghan National Police (ANP) head out to destroy an opium poppy field in Afghanistan’s Dand District, south of Kandahar, last spring. Angola, N.Y. resident Lt. Col. Russell Clark and other New York Army National Guard Soldiers are mentoring the district’s ANP officers, who eradicated the district’s entire opium poppy crop in April and May. New York Army National Guard Soldiers to Help Manage Kuwait Base Protection

Base Defense Operations Cell (BDOC) Soldier Sgt. Luke Zeurcher of Mattydale, N.Y., engages targets with an M4 Carbine here Feb. 25. Zeurcher and other Soldiers of BDOC, who left here for Kuwait on March 17, are the first 27th Infantry Brigade Combat Team troops to undertake an overseas mission since the brigade deployed to Afghanistan in 2008. 27th Infantry Brigade Combat Team Stays Ahead of the Game

Orion Veteran Receives Purple Heart for WWII Combat

"Spike" Mailloux, John Sidur, Barney Lis, Don Trudeau congratulate John Sidur August 15 after receiving his Purple Heart more than 65 years after combat actions on Okinawa in WWII.
