27th Brigade Turns Over Reigns in Afghanistan

Col. Brian K. Balfe (right) and Command Sgt. Maj. David A. Piwowarski case the 27th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, New York Army National Guard, colors to mark the end of their tour as Combined Joint Task Force Phoenix command. The 27th IBCT then moved authority of CJTF Phoenix to the 33rd IBCT, Illinois National Guard, as part of the Transfer of Authority ceremony at Camp Phoenix, Kabul, Afghanistan. The past year for the 27th has been a series of challenges that they have met successfully, said Maj. Gen. Richard P. Formica, Combined Security Transition Command - Afghanistan commander.
