CAMP SMITH-- New York Guard Staff Sgt Jonathan Peebles models the new uniform being worn by members of New York’s state defense force.
The modified Army Combat Uniform features a distinctive New York flag patch, black ranger cap, and gray sewn-on name and service tapes to differentiate this uniform from that worn by members of the Army National Guard.
New York Guard members had been wearing uniforms based on the Army Battle Dress Uniform which was phased out beginning in 2005. Stocks of that uniform are no longer easily obtainable.
