KINDERHOOK--New York Air National Guard Brigadier General Robert Lovell, Special Assistant to the commander of the New York Air National Guard , and New York Army National Guard Command Sgt. Major Frank Wicks present a wreath from the White House at a ceremony honoring President Martin Van Buren on his birthday, Dec. 5. The New York National Guard presents a wreath honoring the president at his gravesite in Kinderhook Cemetery. Van Buren, the first president born as an American Citizen , was nicknamed "Old Kinderhook" because of his residence in the village.
