NEW YORK- Army Gen. Martin E. Dempsey, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff,leads members of the 1st Battalion 69th Infantry in singing "The Fighing 69th" during unit day events following the New York City St. Patrick's Day Parade,led by the battalion, on Tuesday, March 17. Dempsey, an honorary member of the regiment added a new verse to the song-- which commemorates the 69th's service in the Civil War-- which talked of the battalion's Soldiers service in Iraq and Afghanistan.
