42nd Infantry Division Commemorated

GARDEN CITY--Retired Brigadier General Patrick Alesia President of the 42nd Rainbow Division Association (right) and New York Army National Guard Staff Sgt. Colin Stewart the readiness NCO for Charlie Company 1st Battalion 69th Infantry New York Army National Guard salute after presenting a memorial wreath at the 42nd Infantry Rainbow Division World War I memorial in Garden City New York on Nov. 7 2020. The division which is currently deployed to the Middle East was organized in Garden City in 1917 prior to deploying to World War I. Wreaths are placed at memorials to the divison located around the country during the week of Veterans Day to commemorate the founding of the division.
