CAMP SMITH-- New York Guard Brig. Gen. Peter Riley, a 30-year veteran of the New York Army National Guard, accepts the colors of the New York Guard from Major General Ray Shields, the Adjutant General of New York, while taking command of the state's volunteer defense force on Sept. 18, 2021 at Camp Smith Training Site. Riley is a veteran of the Iraq War and also commanded Joint Task Force Empire Shield for eight years.
