ALBANY INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT-- Soldiers assigned to the New York Army National Guard's Honor Guard convey a coffin containing the remains of a World War II Army Air Forces pilot from a Southwest Airlines plane to a waiting hearse on Friday, May 1 at Albany International Airport. The Honor Guard conducted a "dignified transfer" of remains for 2nd Lt. Joseph L. Burke, a World War II prisoner of the Japanese whose remains were identified in 2025. Burke was a resideng of Troy and his remains were returned to the area for a family funeral and burial and Gerald B. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery. The New York National Guard will perform military funeral services at the May 7 event.
