12 Dec, 2019The National Guard turns 383 on Friday Dec. 13. That's the date in 1636 when the General Court of the Massachusetts Bay Colony voted to organize the colony's militia into three permanent regiments. Today these are the oldest in the country. New York can trace it's first militia back to the Burger Guard formed by the Dutch East Indian Company on Manhattan in the 1640s.

The 22 person team made up of Airmen and Soldiers of the NYNG respond to incidents of chemical biological radiological nuclear and explosive and every 18 months have to go through an evaluation where the unit is certified in their mission.

The 369th Sustainment Brigade traces its history back to the 369th Infantry Brigade of World War I. Northern Strike 19 is a National Guard Bureau-sponsored exercise uniting service members from more than 20 states multiple service branches and numerous coalition countries during the last two weeks of July 2019 at the Camp Grayling Joint Maneuver Training Center and the Alpena Combat Readiness Training Center both located in northern Michigan and operated by the Michigan National Guard. During the training Soldiers across the 27th Infantry Brigade Combat Team were able to log flight time on the Raven to keep their operator certifications current.

The wing sent 12 Airmen and an LC-130 the worlds largest ski-equipped aircraft to participate in the world famous Paris Air Show.

Willard Magoon from the Vermont National Guard on Thursday, June 13 at the Albany International Airport. Magoon was a member of B Company, 186th Brigade Support Battalion, 86th Infantry Brigade Combat Team who was killed during a training accident at Fort Polk, Louisiana.

This training was not just great for morale it also provided critical skills necessary in a deployed environment.

17 Apr, 2019ROUND LAKE --A UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter prepares to conduct water bucket training in Round Lake N.Y. April 17 2019. The collapsible buckets which are hung underneath the helicopters can dump 560 gallons of water on a fire each time they are used. Each spring Army National Guard helicopter crew members and maintenance personnel retrain on how to attach the buckets to Black Hawk helicopters and then practice picking up water and dumping it.

The ATV accompanied by a five person "strike team" that is part of the 2nd Civil Support Team here. The strike team concept allows for rapid deployment capabilities. The element was being flown to Hamilton College in Oneida County to take part in a four-day long drill.

4 Mar, 2019A member of the New York Air National Guards 109th Airlift Wing performs maintenance on an LC-130 ski equipped aircraft at McMurdo Station Antarctica on December 17 2018. The 109th Airlift Wing provided aviation support to U.S. Antarctic research mission from October 2018 to February 2019 as part of Operation Deep Freeze the U.S. military support to the National Science Foundation. The mission wrapped up at the end of February.
28 Feb, 2019NIAGARA FALLS -- Airmen from the New York Air National Guard's 107th Attack Wing and the Air Force Reserve's 914th Airlift Wing display Valentine's Day cards from local school children which were delieverd to them by Erie County legislators Lynne Dixon and Ed Rath on Feb. 14, 2019. Each year local officials bring the cards to the Airmen of Niagara that are made by children from schools across the county.

The two Soldiers trained on how to use the equipment properly and safely in case they had to conduct a debris clearance mission in the wake of a wind storm hitting western New York On Feb. 24/25. The New York National Guard mobilized 250 Soldiers and Airmen to prepare to respond.
14 Feb, 2019NEW YORK-- Air Force doctors negotiating a tactical course at the New York Police Departments Rodman's Neck Outdoor Range administer treaterment to a simulated casualty on January 18 in The Bronx New York. Doctors from several Air Force and Air National Guard rescue wings and special operation squadrons took part in the two week Air Force Special Warfare Medical Officer training course which was conducted by the New York Air National Guards 106th Rescue Wing from Jan. 7 to 18. The tactical training exercise at Rodmans Neck was the climax to the course.
14 Feb, 2019Soldiers of the 369th Infantry Regiment band stand at rest as they wait to march up Fifth Avenue in New York City on Feb. 17, 1919, during a parade held to welcome the New York National Guard unit home. More than 2,000 Soldiers took part in the parade up Fifth Avenue. The Soldiers marched seven miles from downtown Manhattan to Harlem. The band was led by noted musician Lt. German retired after 36 years of service.

24 Jan, 2019KUWAIT-- U.S. Army Master Sergeant Patrick ONeill assigned with 101st Expeditionary Signal Battalion, New York Army National Guard, fires the M-4 rifle during a life fire exercise at Camp Buehring Kuwait Jan. 16 2019. The 101st ESB has served nine months in support of Operation Inherent Resolve and Operation Spartan Shield providing communications support for more than a dozen operating sites in some seven countries across the Middle East as part of the coalition effort to defeat the Islamic State also known as ISIS. The unit is expected back in New York soon.

2 Jan, 2019Operating any motor vehicle safely in adverse conditions requires planning and awareness. Operating a tactical vehicle in these conditions also requires training and familiarity with the vehicle. But even with all the right tools, unexpected hazards may still quickly create dangerous situations. The New York National Guard Safety office reminds Soldiers to think ahead, focus on PMCS and anticipate road hazards while driving in adverse conditions.
