25 Feb, 2020Senior Chief Boatswain's Mate Elizebeth Spain rings "four bells" during the re-dedication ceremony of the U.S.S. Flusser bell at the New York State Division of Military and Naval Affairs in Latham, N.Y., February 25, 2020. The day marked the 100th anniversary of the commissioning of the bell's ship, the U.S. Navy destroyer DD-289, U.S.S. Flusser in 1920. The bell is an artifact belonging to the New York State Military History Museum in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., and will be displayed at the Division of Military and Naval Affairs.
24 Feb, 2020FORT HOOD, TEXAS-- Soldiers assigned to the 42nd Infantry Division zero their 240B machinegun on a range at Fort Hood, Texas on Feb. 21, 2020 during post-mobilization training. More than 650 Soldiers assigned to the division headquarters are training to deploy to the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility and assume mission command for Task Force Spartan, the Army elements operating in the area.

The wing flies equipment and people across Antarctica in support of the National Science Foundation's research on the continent. Loading gear on board an LC-130 is like playing Tetris, the video game that requires matching different shapes in places where they will fit.

3 Feb, 2020GLENVILLE- Airmen from the 109th Airlift Wing provide funeral honors for New York Air National Guard Staff Sgt. George Girtler on January 31, 2020 at St. Anthony Cemetery, Glenville, N.Y. Girtler, a mechanic in the wing, died of a pulmonary embolism on January 11 while deployed to McMurdo Station, Antarctica with other members of the 109th Airlift Wing. Girtler, age 37,was an aircraft electrical and environmental specialist.

10 Jan, 2020STRATTON AIR GUARD BASE--A finished crate constructed by Airmen of the 109th Airlift Wing and designed to carry the landing gear skis that enable wing's LC-130s to land on ice and snow, sits on a trailer ready to be shipped to Antarctica for use at Stratton Air National Guard Base in Scotia N.Y. in December 2019. The 109th Airlift Wings Logistical Readiness Squadron designed the new crates to carry the 25-foot long skis of the wing's LC-130s.
