KABUL, Afghanistan -- Staff Sergeant Gil Brassard and his son Specialist Ben Brassard, both truck drivers assigned to the New York Army National Guard's Company A 427th Brigade Support Battalion, watch as MRAPs and up armored humvees pull out of the Camp Phoenix motor pool, on October 31.
Gil Brassard volunteered to deploy with the unit, last year after learning his son was deploying. The elder Brassard, 55, is a Marine Vietnam veteran who has also served in Iraq with New York's 719th Transportation Company in 2003.
This is 23-year old Ben's first deployment.
