CAMP SMITH--Brooklyn resident Brian Ayala, age 20, does morning physical training as he goes through the New York Guard's one-week basic training course for new recruits.
The New York Guard is an volunteer, unpaid state-only force, which augments and assists the New York National Guard during training and in state emergencies.
The New York Guard is conducting week-long schools for new recruits, non-commissioned officers, and company officers at Camp Smith Training Site near Peekskill, July 20-25.
