STRATTON AIR NATIONAL GUARD BASE, Scotia--An LC-130 belonging to the New York Air National Guard’s 109th Airlift Wing roars down the runway here on Friday, Oct. 15 as it heads for Antarctica. The plane and its seven-member crew are the first of six ski-equipped C-130s that will spend the 16-week Antarctic summer transporting people and equipment around the southern continent in support of the National Science Foundation.
