NEW YORK-- New York Army National Guard Major James Gonyo II accepts the colors of the 1st Battalion 69th Infantry from Col. Geoffrey Slack (right), commander of the 27th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, during Change of Command ceremonies at the Lexington Avenue Armory on Saturday, Nov. 20.
Gonyo accepted command of the battalion from Lt. Col. John Andonie.
Gonyo who received his commission in Fort Benning, Ga., also received his Bronze Star in Iraq. During his 19-year military career, he has served in a variety of assignments, including tactical officer for the NYNG’s Officer Candidate School and commander of the NYNG Counterdrug Task Force, among others.
