NATIONAL TRAINING CENTER, FORT IRWIN, CA -- Pvt. 2 Geoff Eastman of Mastic, N.Y. and other New York Army National Guard Soldiers of Company C, 2-108th Infantry provide security while conducting a react-to-contact drill here Oct. 3. The unit, based in Gloversville, N.Y., is part of the 27th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, which is training here as part of its preparations for mobilization and deployment to Afghanistan in early 2012. About 1,500 of the Soldiers are currently scheduled to deploy.
