101st Cav Troops Man Desert Checkpoint

NATIONAL TRAINING CENTER, FORT IRWIN, Calif. " New York Army National Guard Soldiers from Headquarters and Headquarters Troop, 2nd Squadron, 101st Cavalry man an entry control point at Forward Operating Base Miami here Oct. 12. The unit, based in Niagara Falls, N.Y., is part of the 27th Infantry Brigade Combat Team (IBCT), training here as part of the brigade&rsquot;s preparations for mobilization and deployment to Afghanistan in early 2012. The training provides brigade Soldiers with a realistic, demanding, simulated combat environment. About 1,500 of the Soldiers are currently scheduled to deploy.
