Lapse in Appropriations The most recent appropriations for the Department of War expired at 11:59 p.m. EST on September 30, 2025. Military personnel will continue in a normal duty status without pay until such time as a continuing resolution or appropriations are passed by Congress and signed into law. National Guard Noted for Keeping Communities Safe

COLONIE, N.Y. - New York Air National Guard Lt. Col. Steven Fukino, center, and New York Naval Militia Lt. Commander Don McKnight speak with former New York City fireman Bill Massena and his guest at the Colonie Senior Services annual ceremony to "Remember those who keep us safe." The event highlights the contributions of local law enforcement, firefighters, emergency medical technicians and other first responders who work with civic leaders to safeguard their community. Fukino, the director of domestic operations for the New York National Guard, spoke about the contributions of the National Guard’s support to first responders, providing a variety of resources and manpower during domestic emergencies. Fukino highlighted the New York National Guard’s homeland roles from September 11, 2001 through the response to Tropical Storms Irene and Lee in September 2011. Photo by Col.
