LATHAM , NY - New York National Guard Airman 1st Class Rafael Lopez (left), Sgt. 1st Class Michael Lieber (middle) and Pvt. Ryan Potosky (right) use a ceremonial sabre to cut a cake in celebration of the National Guard's 377th Birthday here on Dec. 13. Lopez, 19, and Potosky, 18, both enlisted last year while Lieber, 60, is the oldest serving Soldier in the New York Army National Guard. Lieber, who is retiring at the end of December, served from 1975 to 1985 , re-enlisted in 2003 and served in Iraq about two years later. Lieber, of Schenectady, N.Y. was also awarded the meritorious service medal during the ceremonies, which included awards and enlistments. Lopez is from Saratoga Springs, N.Y. and is a member of the 109th Airlift Wing. Potosky is from Troy, N.Y. and is a member of the 42nd Combat Aviation Brigade.
