BLOEMFONTEIN,South Africa-- Members of the joint New York Army and Air National Guard team participating in the South African Combat Rifle Competition receive individual marksmanship awards during the competition here.
The ten member New York National Guard Team--composed of five Airmen and five Soldiers--finished second place out of 35 teams and 350 individual shooters. Army National Guard 1st Lt. Thomas Beach, the team captain finished in the number six sport out of all shooters. Air National Guard Senior Master Sgt. Edward Stefik, the team manager placed second on the NCO/Warrant officer category and Air National Guard Master Sgt. Jose Pena-Rojas and Air National Guard Staff Sgt. Matthew Zimmer, both earned qualification badges.
The team competes in a final shoot-off on Saturday, March 15.
