CAMP SMITH TRAINING SITE-- Members of the New York Guard, the state's volunteer and emergency response force, train on a Mobile Emergency Command Center or MERC, during their annual training here on Wednesday, July 23. New York Guard members are uniformed volunteers who serve as part of the New York State military forces and assist and augment the New York Army and Air National Guard during state missions and emergencies. The New York Guard's week-long training period began on Sunday, July 21.
