Joint Task Force Empire Shield on Duty

NEW YORK--A New York National Guard Soldier and Airman assigned to Joint Task Force Empire Shield keep an eye on the crowd coming and going in New York Citys Pennsylvania Station Amtrak terminal on Tuesday Dec. 23 2014. The two are part of the New York National Guards 500-member State Active Duty force that assists the Metropolitan Transit Authority Police Department the Bridge and Port Authority Police Department and the Amtrak Police at New York Citys airports and key transit terminals. The uniformed National Guard members do not have arrest authority but provide additional eyes and assist police when requested.
