Members of the New York Air National Guards 105th Security Forces Squadron head uphill at White Sands Missile Range New Mexico on March 20 during the annual Bataan Memorial Death March here. The 26.2 mile march was launched in 1989 to commemorate the American and Filipino Soldiers who were marched 80 miles to prisoner of war camps by their Japanese captors in 1942. Along the way hundreds of the Soldiers died. The march is conducted in New Mexico because 1800 members of the New Mexico National Guard were among those captured.
