FORT POLK--New York Army National Guard Pfc. Mathew Smithers a cavalry scout with B Troop 2nd Squadron 101st Cavalry scans his area with a MK 19 Grenade Launcher (Mark 19) for enemy forces at the Armys Joint Readiness Training Center Fort Polk La. July 23 2016. The cavalry scouts joined more than 3000 Soldiers from New York and 2000 Soldiers from other state Army National Guard units active Army and Army Reserve troops as part of the 27th Infantry Brigade Combat Team task force. The Soldiers will hone their skills and practice integrating combat operations ranging from infantry troops engaging in close combat with the enemy to artillery and air strikes July 9-30 2016.
