Guard Leaders Visit 109th Members

ANTARCTICA --U.S. Army Lt. Gen. Dan Hokanson,the vice chief of the National Guard Bureau, second from right; and United States Air Force Lt. Gen. Scott Rice, Air National Guard Director, meet with Airmen of the 109th Airlift Wing on Feb. 2 during a visit to Operation Deep Freeze, a joint service, on-going defense support to civilian authorities activity in support of the National Science Foundation (NSF), lead agency for the United States Antarctic Program. LC-130 ski-equipped Hercules cargo planes deployed forward to Antarctica from the 109th Airlift Wing, Stratton Air National Guard Base, New York, provide on-continent heavy lift to the Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station, Antarctica, and other remote science outposts in Antarctica.
