CAMP SMITH--New York Guard Acting Commander Col. David Warager speaks during a ceremony marking the 100th anniversary of the state defense force held on August 9, 2017 at Camp Smith Training Site in Cortlandt Manor, N.Y. The New York Guard was created to replace the New York National Guard in 1917 when those Soldiers were mobilized to fight in World War I. The New York Guard is a state only volunteer force with no federal mission. Warager unveiled a plaque which will be displayed at Camp Smith.
