MENDON Officials speak to each other following a ceremony held on June 11, 2023, in Mendon, New York to unveil a monument dedicated to three New York Army National Guard helicopter pilots who lost their lives when their UH-60 Black Hawk crashed in Mendon during a night training mission on January 20, 2022. The design of three flying geese commemorates warrant officers Steven Skoda, Daniel Prial and Christian Koch who were killed in the crash. Town officials commissioned the monument and a local artist created it. The memorial also includes plaques commemorating the three Guardsmen.
