SHANNON, Ireland-- New York Army National Guard Soldiers assigned to the 1st Battalion 69th Infantry, pose for a photograph with the flag of the Civil War Irish Brigade while passing through Shannon Airport, Ireland on June 9, 2023. The Soldiers were returning to the United States after serving in the Horn of Africa for ten months. The 69th Infantry, nicknamed the "Fighting 69th" was originally an Irish-American New York militia unit which was brigaded with other regiments of Irish immigrants during the Civil War.
