NY Army Guard medics learn to treat military dogs

CAMP BUERHING, Kuwait --New York Army National Guard Sgt. Robert Espinal and Spc. Reynaldo Castillo, combat medical specialists assigned to the 642nd Aviation Support Battalion, check the inner thigh heartbeat of Laska a military working dog supervised by MWD handlers assigned to Area Support Group - Kuwait on September 22 2023 at Camp Buehring Kuwait. The battalion is assigned to the 185th Aviation Battalion while deployed. Combat medical specialists from the 185th conducted training on how safely stabilize military working dogs injured on duty. This included assessing vital signs recognizing and treating shock and heat injuries and where to apply intravenous fluids. The 185th is deployed in support of Operations Inherent Resolve Spartan Shield and New Normal.
