Naval Militia launches drone unit

CAMP SMITH TRAINING SITE--New York Naval Militia Staff Sgt. Christopher Vega (left) and Maj. Michael Golden prepare to launch a Vesper ISR drone as part of a flight certification exercise, at Camp Smith Training site, Cortlandt Manor, N.Y. on Feb. 11, 2025 . The two are part of the New York Naval Militia's Unmanned Aerial Surveillance Unit which was organized in 2024. The New York Naval Militia is a state defense force which is made up of personnel enrolled in the Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard reserves who also agree to perform state active duty when called.
