SYRACUSE- Warrant Officer Brandon VanWorner, left, joins Chief Warrant Officer 5, William Solmo, the New York Army National Guard Command Chief Warrant Officer, in cutting a cake marking the 107th birthday of the Army Warrant Officer Corps on July 9, 2025. Warrant Officers were authorized when the Army Mine Planter Service was created as part of the Coast Artillery in 1918. The commanders of the Army watercraft that planted and recovered sea mines were designated as warrant officers.
