CENTRAL COMMAND AREA--Maj. Gen. Jack James (left), the commander of the 42nd Infantry Division, and Command Sgt. Maj. Arnold Reyes (right), the 42nd Infantry Division Command Sgt. Major, case the division's colors during the Task Force Spartan transfer of authority ceremony June 6 in the Middle East. The 42nd Infantry Division headquarters mobilized over 500 Soldiers for deployment to serve as the command of Task Force Spartan, the Army force in the region, on May 24, 2026. While deployed the 42nd Infantry Division Soldiers assumed responsibilities for operations during the ongoing conflict with Iran. The 36th Infantry Division is assuming the responsibility of leading Task Force Spartan.
