LATHAM--Brigadier General Elisabeth Rivera Smith poses with Major General Ray Shields, the adjutant general of New York, and Major General Michel Natali, the assistant adjutant general, Army, during her retirement ceremony held on April 24, 2026 at New York National Guard headquarters in Latham. Smith, the director of joint staff for the New York National Guard, retired after more than 40 years of service, after beginning her career as an enlisted truck driver.
