NEW YORK--A New York National Guard Soldier assigned to Joint Task Force Empire Shield the New York National Guard security force in New York City provides and N-95 mask to a passerby at Penn Station in New York City on July 16 2026. At the direction of the governor Guard members on duty in New York transportation hubs have been providing residents with the masks to provide protection against the smoke from wildfires in Canada and Minnesota which has been degrading air quality in the city.
