How to Obtain your New York Army National Guard Military Records

Records of this nature are most easily accessed via Army Knowledge Online (AKO).

https://www.us.army.mil access to personnel records will require a Common Access Card (CAC) or password in order to sign onto the iPERMS system.

Additionally, these records may be requested by following the steps shown below.

New York Army National Guard Members Discharged after 1953 may request copies of their records by writing to the following address:

or by faxing a completed, signed Standard Form (SF) 180 to (518) 786-0471.

New York Army National Guard Members Discharged prior to 1953 (70 Years Ago)

If we are unable to assist you in obtaining copies of your records you may be referred to the National Archives and Records Administration Website or the National Personnel Records Center Website.

A completed, signed Standard Form (SF) 180 must be provided to facilitate your records request.

NOTE: Personnel records over 70 years old are routinely destroyed and/or archived.

NOTE: A major fire at the National Personnel Records Center in 1973 destroyed nearly 80% of Army records 1912-1960, and 75% of Air Force records 1947-1964.
