Command Sergeant Major Corey Cush entered active-duty on August 6, 1986, where he attended Basic and Advanced Training at Fort Sill, OK as a Fire Support Specialist. His initial assignments included roles as Cannon Fire Direction Specialist with the 1st Battalion 30th Field Artillery in Augsburg, Germany, and Section Sergeant with C Company of the 7th Battalion, 15th Field Artillery Brigade stationed at Fort Ord in California. He was deployed to Panama for 'Operation Just Cause.'
After leaving active-duty, CSM Cush joined the New York Army National Guard on August 7, 1990, where his first unit of assignment was A Battery, 1/258th Field Artillery as a Fire Direction Specialist. His subsequent positions included Fire Direction Coordinator Section Chief for Battery B, 1st Battalion, 258th Field Artillery; Platoon Sergeant, RTI Tactical Non-commissioned Officer (NCO), Basic NCO Course (BNCOC) Instructor, BNCOC Course Manager, Combat Arms Course Manager, and First Sergeant at the 106th Regional Training Institute from 1996 through 2005. He was promoted to CSM of the 1st BN 258th Field Artillery Battalion in September 2005.
In 2007 and 2008, CSM Cush served as the senior enlisted advisor for Afghan Regional Security Integration Command and the Afghanistan National Army. In April 2009, he was appointed CSM and Commandant of the 106th Regional Training Institute. In August 2014, he became the 53rd Troop Command Sergeant Major, and most recently, he served as the 42nd Infantry Division Command Sergeant Major from October 2018 to June 2023.
CSM Cush holds a Master's Degree in Information Systems and a Certificate of Advanced Study in Enterprise Technology. He is currently the Chief Information Officer for the Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC). His military education includes all levels of the Noncommissioned Officer Education System through the Nominative Leader Course.
His federal awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit with two Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters, the Bronze Star Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal with three Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Commendation Medal with one Silver Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Achievement Medal with three Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters, and other numerous service and campaign medals.
