CSM Kevin R. Roeser entered the United States Army Infantry OSUT at Ft Benning, GA. He enlisted as an 11X and was assigned the 11C MOS upon completing Basic/AIT. CSM Roeser was then assigned to the Squadron mortar platoon in the 1/11 ACR at Ft Irwin, CA. While assigned in the 1/11 ACR CSM Roeser served as an ammo bearer/driver, assistant gunner, gunner, and squad leader. CSM Roeser then moved to Ft. Drum where he was assigned to 2/87 IN as a Battalion mortar platoon squad leader. While assigned to 2/87 IN CSM Roeser deployed to Bosnia as part of Stabilization Force (SFOR) 6 to help with the stabilization of the war-torn country.
In 2000, CSM Roeser transitioned from the Active Army and enlisted directly into the NYARNG. He was assigned to B Co 1/108 IN where he was assigned as a rifle team leader. CSM Roeser was promoted to SSG and deployed as an infantry squad leader to Iraq in support of OIF II. Upon returning from Iraq, B 1/108 IN was reorganized to C 2/101 CAV. CSM Roeser was assigned as a recon team leader until being selected for promotion to SFC in A 2/108 IN in Geneseo, NY in 2009. CSM Roeser was selected to be a 1SG with Operations Co 42ID before transferring to serve as the 1SG of C Troop 2/101CAV. CSM Roeser then transferred back to Operations Co 42ID in 2016, serving as a 1SG until selected to be the 2/101 CAV CSM in 2017. As CSM of the 2/101 CAV, CSM Roeser deployed to Ukraine as part of the Joint Multinational Training Group-Ukraine as part of Operation Atlantic Resolve.
CSM Roeser was most recently assigned as the 42ID G3 Operations Sergeant Major in February of 2022. CSM Roeser currently serves as the 27th IBCT Brigade CSM.
CSM Roeser is a graduate of the US Army Infantry OSUT, Primary Leadership Development Course, Infantry Mortar Leaders’ Course, Basic Non-Commissioned Officers’ Course, Advanced Non-Commissioned Officers’ Course, the United States Army Sergeants Major Course, the Battalion Pre-Command Course, the Brigade Pre-Command Course, the US Army Pathfinder School, US Army Airborne School, and the Cavalry Leaders’ Course.
CSM Roeser’s awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (2nd award), Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal (4th award), Army Achievement Medal (4th award), Army Good Conduct Medal, Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal (3rd award), the National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal with campaign star, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon with numeral 5, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Army Reserve Component Overseas Training Ribbon, and NATO medal. CSM Roeser has been awarded the Combat Infantryman’s Badge, the Expert Infantryman’s Badge, Pathfinder Badge, and Basic Parachutist Badge. In addition, CSM Roeser has received various state and foreign awards. He is the recipient of the US Army Armor Association’s Order of St. George Medal.
CSM Roeser resides in East Amherst, NY with his wife Kristen and two sons, Brennan and Kieran. He currently is employed as an Operating Room Nurse at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Buffalo, NY.
